Washington Biomedical Research Facility 3.1 (WBRF 3.1) is the first sub-phase of a development adding to the existing Biomedical Research Campus on South Lake Union, just north of Downtown Seattle. WBRF 3.1 is also the beginning of the third phase of an ongoing development project designed to redefine the South Lake Union area as a world premier biomedical research center.
WBRF 3.1 will add a 138,330 gross square feet, seven-story structure to the existing campus. Included in the design is an underground parking garage consisting of approximately 250 parking spaces and loading dock. NDC financed the project using 63-20 Bonds totaling $165 million.
The first phase of the project began in 2003 with the rehabilitation of the Brotman Building, a 105,000 square foot biomedical research facility financed by NDC using 501 (c)(3) bonds, totaling $38 million.
The second phase of the project began in 2005 with the construction of three new buildings on the same city block as the existing Brotman Building. The new structures total 300,000 square feet of office and research laboratory space. This phase of development was financed by NDC using 501 (c)(3) bonds totaling $160 million.
