NDC would like to highlight an Opinion Article that ran in Cleveland.com. In the coming months, Cleveland will welcome the Republican National Convention. First-time visitors to Cleveland for the RNC are in for a pleasant surprise. They will be amazed by a thriving downtown, the local dining scene and revitalized neighborhoods. The article, submitted by Jenny Spencer of the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, tells the story of how robust urban policy and public funding has shaped the revitalization of the City.

Mentioned in the Article is the Gordon Square Arts Redevelopment District, a redevelopment NDC played a small role in. Through a Technical Assistance Contract with the City of Cleveland, NDC’s current President Bob Davenport aided the Detroit-Shoreway Development Corporation in getting a federal Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) so they could buy the Gordon Square Arcade (theater, retail, offices on the ground floor and affordable housing on the upper two floors – the building is a block wide and about ¼ block deep plus surface parking).
